If you’re a fan of traditional Vietnamese cuisine and passionate about folk culture, don’t miss the chance to visit Đậu Homemade – a unique bún đậu mắm tôm restaurant that combines authentic food with water puppetry, the only one of its kind in Ho Chi Minh City.
1. Enjoy Authentic Northern-style Bún Đậu
At Đậu Homemade, every detail of the bún đậu mắm tôm dish is carefully crafted – from ingredients to flavors – preserving the authentic taste of Hanoi while adding a distinctive “Đậu” twist.
The signature platter includes golden fried đậu mơ (tofu) that’s crispy on the outside and creamy inside, silky white bún lá (rice vermicelli), tender steamed pork leg, fragrant cốm sausage, and a variety of other toppings, all served with fresh herbs and rich Northern-style fermented shrimp paste.
Every element captures the essence of Northern Vietnamese cuisine, delivering a truly “homemade” experience, just like the name suggests.

Beyond bún đậu, the menu offers over 30 delicious Hanoi-style dishes, from appetizers and snacks to iconic specialties like Crab Paste Hotpot with Beef & Cartilage Ribs, Bún Giả Cầy (Pork Stew Noodle Soup), Crispy Crab Spring Rolls, and Spicy Claypot Tofu.

2. A Unique Water Puppetry Experience in the Heart of the City
Đậu Homemade is more than just a place to eat – it also features a traditional water puppetry stage, bringing to life a thousand-year-old art form from Northern Vietnam.

Every meal at Đậu becomes an immersive journey, combining Vietnamese culinary delights with rich cultural storytelling. The whimsical wooden puppets and lively folk tales captivate all guests, especially international visitors, offering a deeper connection to Vietnam’s heritage.

Dau Homemade offers a miniaturized traditional water puppetry stage with full cultural authenticity. Created by Hoang Huong Giang — a student of famed water puppet artist Phan Thanh Liem — these shows are free, held on weekends, or bookable for groups of 15+. Visitors can also try operating the puppets and interact with the performers, who are also Dau’s staff.
Address: 01 Nguyen Van Trang, District 1
