More than just a place to dine, Đậu Homemade is a venue where guests can immerse themselves in the rich, traditional culture of Vietnam. From nostalgic design elements to authentic northern Vietnamese cuisine and especially the unique water puppetry performances—a traditional Vietnamese art form from the North with over 1,000 years of history—Đậu offers an all-in-one cultural journey.
A Hanoi-Inspired Space in the Heart of Ho Chi Minh City
Drawing inspiration from old Hanoi houses, Đậu Homemade stands out with its golden yellow walls, dark tiled roofs, and a cozy interior rich in traditional details. Simple wooden tables, folk art, vintage propaganda posters, and even handcrafted water puppets create a warm, romantic, and unmistakably Vietnamese ambiance.
Each Đậu branch has its own theme, but all remain faithful to the nostalgic charm of “Old Hanoi”—a perfect blend of simplicity, elegance, and comfort.

Authentic Hanoi Cuisine, True to the Taste
When it comes to Hanoi cuisine, Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm (vermicelli with fried tofu and fermented shrimp paste) is a must-mention—and it’s also the star dish at Đậu Homemade. Each tray is a celebration of northern flavors, featuring: Soft white vermicelli, Golden fried tofu (Đậu Mơ), Green rice pork patties (Chả Cốm), boiled pork leg, crunchy pork sausage, And, of course, a bowl of rich, aromatic shrimp paste

Another standout is the Crab Hotpot with Beef and Pork Ribs—a comforting broth made from pork bones and freshwater crabs, enhanced with fermented rice vinegar (giấm bỗng) and tomatoes for a uniquely savory and tangy flavor.
The menu also features many beloved northern Vietnamese dishes such as:
Mixed boiled or fried pork intestines
Pillow-shaped fried dumplings (Bánh Gối)
Ho Tay shrimp fritters
Snail vermicelli with tofu and banana (Bún Ốc Chuối Đậu)
Braised pork and rice vermicelli (Bún Giả Cầy)
Đậu’s chefs thoughtfully prepare all dishes to maintain authentic Hanoi flavors while still appealing to a wide range of palates.
Water Puppetry – A Cultural Highlight Found Only at Đậu
Water puppetry is a traditional Vietnamese performing art with over 1,000 years of history. Shows are staged on a water surface (thủy đình), where wooden puppets are controlled from behind a screen by skilled puppeteers. Performances combine movement, music, and the singing art of Chèo to bring folk tales and daily life scenes vividly to life.
Uniquely, Đậu Homemade is the first and only restaurant in Vietnam to feature live miniature water puppet shows. The stage was personally designed by founder Hoàng Hương Giang, and the performers are none other than Đậu’s own trained staff.
Shows are typically held on weekends or by pre-booking for groups of 15 or more, and what’s even more special, they are completely free, with no tickets required.
